Time::
Life is a battle full of little deaths. In battle there is no victor only the battle... only to live for another battle... only Her.

She surveys the battle field and takes of the offerings She desires. This one will come with me, this one can rot on the field, this one must get up now.

Today I will take my rest... and tomorrow? If tomorrow is a battle, then I will rededicate... to Her.

Protagonist: the character who traditionally undergoes some sort of change through the events of the story.

The protagonist is typically the MAIN character (or one of the main characters) but what if in a story, the character who undergoes the most change turns out to be (at least a little) less the focus than the main characters?

Oh to be 23 again...

... or at least to be part of it... still part of it... always part of it...

When I grow up, I want to be the proprietor of a bar.

Sports bars r open all the time, but there is rarely a on game worth watching... once a week.... 3 times a week tops? for what, 5 consecutive hours tops? Yes? Please, if u think otherwise, say so :-)

Someone suggested a bar focused around comic books and comic book heroes. I think this is a good idea, but not exactly right for me. I was thinking more about a focus on moves... or maybe tv series... and/or both.

Lay out a schedule, and have the movie of the day running all day, from open to close. The volume can be louder in one section of the bar... and music can dominate in another section.

... and every once in a while we can show The Wizard of Oz against Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon.

Subject:Thoughts on High Profile Public Rituals in Binghamton
Time::
Meeting just outside the Holiday Inn. There is a nice neat circle paved into the stonework patio. Process from there down under Riverside drive passing station along the way. The bridge of Riverside Drive makes an excellent passage into sacred space. Circle up in the patio just the other side of Riverside Drive. Cast circle, call quarter/deity, do magic. Once magic is done, bring remainder to the point of the confluence and drop it off.

Process back to the Holiday Inn for a feast.

Of course there r as many permiatations for this as there r reasons to do ritual.

First, we would need not only the Blessing of The City of Binghamton, but their support as well. This would not only be a public event, it would be a City Event, put on and supported by the city. If were were to use the Holiday in as a starting point we would at the very least need their permission, hopefully for parking as well. If there was to be some event there, they may be able to give us a deal on food and what not if it were to draw enough people to stay and party... I mean, really party.

... so... what should be the first event? Samhain? Beltain? or something more subdued like Llammas? Would something more subdued still create a wild party?

Subject:My Second Bike Ride...
Time::
Current Mood:Winding Down
... on a new bike.

My first ride was on Sunday. I went back to the UU and saw Geoff Kaufman sing some Labor related folk songs as well as relate some of the history of the Labor Movement. I stopped at West Fest on the way down and the way back. It was a nice stopping point for me first ride.

My second bike ride:

I am trying not to ride the main streets with more traffic, especially on a weekday just after work when the traffic is a higher. I made my way down to Confluence Park, where the Susquehanna River meets the Chenango River. It is really pretty down there. I rode up the river walk close to the river. I Rode very slowly and walked the bike down hill so as not to interfere with any pedestrians. It also gave my legs some work to accustom them to riding again, starting from a stop at the bottom of any slop. On the way back I took the street level path back to Confluence Park. From there I crossed the Susquehanna on the foot bridge. There is only a little distance to go West from there until u hit a small stream. I turned around and rode closer to the river than the road all the way to the Exchange Street Bridge. From there I rode home, passing by Imagicka stopping to say hey to my wife sitting outside.

Time::
Current Mood:Dark... er...
This is a story about The Rapture... about the End of Days.

It starts with G-D telling his followers The Rapture is near and they must prepare... "That is all for now"

Some discussion between The Faithful

G-D returns and asks His Faithful to make lists of EVERYONE they know of who will not go up in The Rapture with them and y. He explains that before he can create Heaven on Earth, the Earth needs to be cleansed. In one version, The Faithful stick together and name their neighbors and co-workers. In another version they name everyone they know (except themselves of course).

Discussion between The Faithful

Dark clouds gather, and G-D speaks to EVERYONE through a BIG BOOMING voice heard simultaneousness across The Earth, "The Rapture is neigh. All those who have not helped to pave the way to this blessed event will now be sucked into hell."

In the first version the faithful watch as everyone around them is sucked, kicking and screaming into dark maws opening in the earth all around them. As the terror dies down, one by one The Faithful float up into the clouds, into Heaven. As they pass through the clouds the scene changes. They r no longer "floating" but being carried up by large clawed hands. They r being carried, now kicking and screaming, into the maws of Cthulhu.

In the alternate version everyone is sucked, kicking and screaming into dark maws opening in the earth all around. G-D has something pithy yet profound to say.

Stupid Coyote wants to know what it is about us that make us individuals: Our nationality, Our heritage, Our religion... ... ... What else can u think of?

Friend 1
Our DNA? our fingerprints? our irises? our ears?

Stupid Coyote
¡YES, Thanks Addie. That was outside my box :-)

Friend 1
That being said, I think the notion of pure individuality, autonomy is faulty. We are all part of the interdependent web. We cannot live and act without an effect of some sort on something or someone else. Unique makeup, personalities -- yes, but not completely separate from one another.

Stupid Coyote
Actually... the point I am going to make... but not here... um... well... I guess I am going to make it here after all...

is...

We ALL have a nationality, we ALL have a heritage, a religion, DNA, fingerprints, irises, day lilies, and roses (cept some of us don't have day lilies or roses).

We ALL actually share a connection through these things... even though we r all slightly different through them too.

Friend 2
our hearts.

Friend 3
a combination of DNA, culture, experience, and some nameless innate personality inclination...i think shared group identities like nationality, political, religious are social conveniences for interaction- if we were all 100% individual all of the time we wouldn't be able to interact/function with others...

Friend 4
I think that individuality is inherent in the true balance of the Universe. We are part of an interdependent web, yes, however at the same time we are separate and independent. The term I like to use is "individuated incarnations of the One" ~ The One wanted to know itself but as the One it was unable. So, it split itself into infinite parts to have infinite experiences for the purpose of understanding itself. ~ Each one of us is a part of the One as we are apart from the One.

Friend 4
I'm sorry Darin, to answer your question... What makes me an individual is the fact that I am incarnated.

Stupid Coyote
Thank u for getting back to my question Jonathan... but that is a bit too broad for my purposes... as I think DNA and finger prints r a bit too specific...

from the specifics of DNA and finger prints I can get "biology" which fits my needs better...

If u feel so moved, would u consider a more specific ideas - ideals which might fall under incarnated?

Friend 5
Our behavior.

Friend 4
How about.. the way we think and how we perceive the world around us which were influenced by our culture and the families we were raised in. Our thought patterns make us individuals.

Stupid Coyote
Family... I missed that one...

... I would miss that one )-: sorry :-)

Friend 6
I also think that pattern of the universe, such as the time of year we were born, our birth order,what environment we were raised in (musical, academic, farming, etc...)(city, countryside, arid or lush) and then the experiences we've had and been exposed to. And back to biology a little, snowflakes are individual within the parameters of being ... Read More

Friend 7
The individual makes choices...we can not choose our birth, parents, nationality nor DNA or death, but we can make the choices that set us apart.

Friend 6
Yep. Completely agree. The one thing we can have control over is our attitude.

Friend 8
our experiences

Friend 9
Our health

Friend 3
what is weird, having just had our second child- is how early on personality starts to emerge- and how different one child is from the next-growing up in practically the same environment as our first child- these two couldn't be any more different, yes birth order and gender come in to play- but where does ones individual spark of personality come from?

Current Mood:slightly more caffinated
The Garden this year is awful... Mostly because I am not there. It is FULL of rocks... and I dug WAY too deep, turning the soil. I started tossing some of the compost pile in... but that compost pile serves only ONE function now... to keep the mint from invading the garden.

So I have started a new composting project... I am throwing everything in a garbage pail. The first thing to go in was the "clippings" from the barberry bush (and I use that word only discriptively because I decimated the bush and hacked the "clippings" into as small a pieces as I could. BOY is that can buggie... I think it is attracting deer flies )-: As this composts down a bit I will put a significant amount of dirt into it, and I am going to look for worms. I have wanted to do a "worms eat my garbage" thing for a LONG time now.

Preparing for next year's garden...

I am collecting 5 gallon buckets from the dining hall at work. Hopefully I will have some usable compost by next spring. I was thinking ONE plant per bucket... now I am thinking ONE tomato or pepper plant and a couple of garlic, scallion, or other tuber plants per bucket. Do u think that would be too tight?

Please feel free to continue along any lines of thinking I have created here... or off on ur own tangents. It is all helpful or deletable :-)

Subject:We Can Not Merely Pray
Time::
Some more words from this last Sunday's Service, which I found particularly moving:

We Can Not Merely Pray
by Rabbi Jack Riemer

We cannot merely pray to you, O G-d,
     to end war;
For we know that You have made the world in a way
That man must find his own path to peace.
Within himself and with his neighbor.

We cannot merely pray to You, O G-d,
     to end starvation;
For You have already given us the resources
With which to feed the entire world,
If we would only use them wisely.

We cannot merely pray to You, O G-d,
     to root out prejudice;
For You have already given us eyes
With which to see the good in all men,
If we would only use them rightly.

We cannot merely pray to You, O G-d,
     to end despair,
For You have already given us the power
To clear away slums and to give hope,
If we would only use our power justly.

We cannot merely pray to You, O G-d,
     to end disease;
For You have already given us great minds
With which to search out cures and healing,
If we would only use them constructively.

Therefore we pray to You instead, O G-d,
For strength, determination and will power,
To do instead of just pray,
To become instead of merely to wish.

I know we all do what we can, and our prayers r often on top of that...

but I also feel we r all very self centered when we choose what we want to do with our energy and time. This is both good and bad. If I have time I would like to focus an entry on each of the passages above.

Subject:Because we r all Slaves in one way or another
Time::
This was in our sermon on Sunday, and it stuck with me:

Deuteronomy, Chapter 24
18 For, remember, you were once slaves in Egypt, and the Lord, your G-d, ransomed you from there; that is why I command you to observe this rule. 19 "When you reap the harvest in your field and overlook a sheaf there, you shall not go back to get it; let it be for the alien, the orphan or the widow, that the Lord, your G-d, may bless you in all your undertakings. 20 When you knock down the fruit of your olive trees, you shall not go over the branches a second time; let what remains be for the alien, the orphan and the widow. 21 When you pick your grapes, you shall not go over the vineyard a second time; let what remains be for the alien, the orphan, and the widow. 22 For remember that you were once slaves in Egypt; that is why I command you to observe this rule.

At what cost do we horde every last scrap that is “ours”?

Is it really ours? Was it EVER ours?

I don’t have the faith to give away all my worldly possessions as Gandhi did, and I don’t feel comfortable, in this consumer driven world we have “agreed to”, to waist what I have paid for, but these attachment inform me and create a world of my making.

I give as much as I can when asked… and often end up with little for myself… is that what this is asking of us?

I think there is more, but I have not gleaned a way of expressing it as of yet.

Current Mood:just another little man, me
If anyone, on any pretext whatsoever, tried to interfere with my work as a physician or educator, I'd throw him out. And if called into court, I'd ask him certain clear, simple questions that he'd be unable to answer without feeling ashamed for the rest of his life--because I'm a man who works, who knows what a human being is like inside, who knows that every human being has his worth, and who wants the world to be governed by work and not by opinions about work. I have my own opinion and I can distinguish lies from the truth, which I use as a tool every hour of the day, which I clean when I finish using it, and keep clean.
~Wilhelm Reich Listen, Little Man!

That was not all I wanted to say... The passage starts out rude... y, because he is confronted by rude, and he doesn't stand for it. Y do YOU stand for it? Y do I care that anyone is being rude to anyone... it is not me... THIS TIME. *rugs* Don't stand up for urself. Hide from the rhetoric behind more rhetoric... and back and forth... Don't ask, Don't tell.

So here I am again. I THINK I KNOW where the truth is here. DO I REALLY??? U CAN'T answer that, and so neither can I. Not until the TRUTH is told. Not just YOUR truth, but the truth from THIS ONE and THAT ONE, and THE OTHER ONE OVER THERE... ... ...

So what does THIS all mean??? still MORE DRAMA to come... ya, it could if u want to make it that.

For me it is my own ramblings through my OWN HURT FEELINGS. Y should I be hurt, it was I with the sword, making broad sweeping strokes. No... I have no right to claim pain here... only the pain born of doing the only OTHER thing I could do in my situation (not sit aside and let it continue).

Where is the TRUTH. I have done away with that along with the innuendos and masking rhetoric.

Maybe it is better not to know... better then what was there. or maybe it would have be better to have the path we were on AND the TRUTH (but who's to say the truth would have ever come out of that?).

I say... TELL YOUR TRUTH NOW. I invited it and do so again here... but I don't believe u can without the innuendos and masking rhetoric... I don't believe u can.

prove me wrong...
please.

Subject:Judging Others by Our Own Standards
Time::
Current Mood:Catching up on w/my thoughts
For the most part, our first reactions to stimuli r from a self-supporting paradigm. In other words, our first reactions r self-centered. As we grow in maturity, our reactions to events become less selfish and more open-minded… but not by much.

For example when we see someone doing something we don’t understand (or don’t think they should be doing) our first and often final response is to judge their behavior as WRONG. I hear it all the time. “What they did was wrong.” What they r doing is wrong.”

I say, no (at least as often as I can catch myself). We can only see things from our own point of view, from our own perspective, from our own personal paradigm; but nothing is that simple. It is not enough to KNOW y a person is doing what they do; u need to be able to UNDERSTAND y someone is doing something before u can make an accurate judgment as to whether it is right or wrong.

For any act, there is a REASONABLE cause for someone to be doing it. This doesn’t mean that IS the cause, but if we can approach each situation with more understanding, we would ALL find a lot less anger and stress in our lives.

http://www.disinfo.com/content/story.php?title=Gene-Roddenberry-wife-to-spend-eternity-in-space

The creator of "Star Trek" and his wife will spend eternity together in space. Celestis Inc., a company that specializes in "memorial spaceflights," said Monday that it will ship the remains of Gene Roddenberry and Majel Barrett Roddenberry into space next year.

The couple's cremated remains will be sealed into specially made capsules designed to withstand the rigors of space travel. A rocket-launched spacecraft will carry the capsules, along with digitized tributes from fans. The Roddenberrys' remains - and the spacecraft - will travel ever deeper into space and will not return to earth, company spokeswoman Susan Schonfeld said.

After Gene Roddenberry died in 1991, his wife commissioned Celestis to launch a part of his remains into space in 1997. She died Dec. 18, 2008.

Not they don't deserve such a "fitting" final resting place... but please...

Is space going to become our next burial ground... or worse yet... our next Garbage Dump?

I thought I would cross-post this here (as well as lj_design)

I hope I am leaving this feedback in the right place.

I have not had a lot of time to check out the new profile page, but for the most part I like it. One thing I REALLY miss, though, is being able to see someone else's communities.

In the new profile page design "friends, communities, and feeds" r all grouped into one list. I can't tell what is an individual, what is a community, and what is a feed.

One of the things I have done in the past is when I find someone interesting, I look at their list of communities for ones I am interested in. There r just SO many communities on LiveJournal I found this to be the best way to find the ones I want.

Please separate the lists back out into a separate list of friends, a separate list of communities, and a separate list of feeds. Another option I would be happy with is to use the "lj user" so each (friends, communities, and feeds) would have a distinct icon in front of it. In this way, the list would take up more space then it currently does, but it would all be together as it currently is.

I am easy, and contact me if any of this is unclear.

Subject:I LOVE Rumi
Time::
I try to read dailyrumi every day. Here is what I read from it today:

Rest your cheek, for a moment,
on this drunken cheek.
Let me forget the war and cruelty inside myself.
I hold these silver coins in my hand;
give me Your wine of golden light.
You have opened the seven doors of heaven;
now lay Your hand generously on my tightened heart.
All I have to offer is this illusion, my self.
Give it a nickname at least that is real.
Only you can restore what You have broken;
help my broken head.
Im not asking for some sweet pistachio candy,
but Your everlasting love.
Fifty times I've said,
"Heart, stop hunting and step into this net."

At first thought I though Rumi was talking to some lover. This seems a common mistake for me to make with Rumi. Boy wouldn't it be wonderful if the folks we draw to us could fix what is broken.

But as with much of Rumi, it is Divine (however it is u see it) that he talks to... makes requests of... And with only a handful of silver coins and an illusion he would ask for the restoration.

But both the silver coins and the illusion will not be accepted. All that is asked of him is to stop hunting and give in... and he knows this... yet has still not accepted it.

These entries r now being fed into my Facebook Account. I would love for my friends and family there, as well as here in LiveJournal, to comment on these posts. If u can not comment directly to the note (I am still not sure how notes work), then please feel free to message comments to me. Maybe it will stimulate a discussion for us :-)

Current Mood:hello, anyone listening?
Is that like *head desk*? I know it is for some folks...

regardless...

I now have a Facebook account... but NO friends :-(

come find out my real name (there is already a picture of me on my MySpace) and see a picture of me at my Facebook account. Please friend me there as well.

I am setting up some of the particulars now. It should sound pretty much like my LJ and MySpace profiles... so nothing new there... just a new way to connect to folks who r not here or there (well, who r there (on Facebook) but not there (on MySpace))...

...

...

and now for something completely different, a man with 3 buttocks; Mr. Arthur Frampton.

Current Mood:confused... still
Some how...

I inherited an LJ community: rebelpagans

So, now I am inviting EVERYONE on my friend's list to join.

I made some changes to it today... kinda personalizations... but I am open to suggestions as to what might make it better. I can't change the name of it... so there that is... rugs

Some history I can tell u about the community

It was created on 09-07-2004 and no one posted in it (including me) until 04-15-2008 when I realized I was the ONLY maintainer and said "WTF!"

There r 17 members and 14 folks watching. Although if some of them r not listed as Adults they will no longer have access to the group.

I know it is probably in bad form (and certainly NO incentive for anyone from my Flist to join) but I was considering cross-posting entries there when I post them here... at least there will be something there then... and there r SOME different folks watching (or at least belong to) that journal.

Anyway... in 6 months or so, if I am the only one to have posted there, I will invite everyone there to friend me here and close that community down... but for now
